This Week

What an amazing start to the week it has been already! I felt quite emotional waving to our Year 5 children on the coach as they make their way to the very first HCFS residential. I know they will have such an amazing time. It seems like only yesterday these children were preparing to be our very first Reception cohort, and now we are having conversations about visiting secondary schools - where has that time gone!

I have been fortunate to work really closely with the Reception children since they started, and am delighted with how well they have settled. They are all so enthusiastic to learn; I do love how much they like to share their work with whoever opens the classroom door!

Last week I had the pleasure of listening to a group of children in Key Stage One read, and I am always impressed by how well the children retain the various different strategies we teach. We have an incredibly systematic approach to the teaching of reading and the children love all of the different actions that go alongside each of the sounds. If your child has joined us in Reception this year you are welcome to come along to our Phonics Talk on the 4th October at 2:30pm or 5:30pm to find out a little more.

I do hope by now you have had a chance to read our fortnightly newsletter, which can be found at the following link: We have thought carefully about how best to present you with all of the information and events that happen in school over a two week period, as we want you to be involved in our celebrations as much as possible. Please do remember that at the end of last year, and the start of this year, every child received a list of key dates that run from Sept - July. These can also be found on your child's class webpage, the front page of the school website, and we will also send regular email, facebook and twitter reminders.

I look forward to welcoming Year 4 parents to our first cohort assembly this coming Friday, as well as seeing many of you at our MacMillan Coffee Morning from 9:30am onwards. Please don't forget about Mrs Quilty's Great HCFS Bake Off, where the children can bring their baking creations in. A winner will be decided and the cakes sold at our coffee morning.

I wish you all a lovely week, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
